New Delhi-based Institute of Objective Studies (IOS) said it planned to set up a regional institute for media studies in this city and Kolkata this year.
IOS Chairman Dr M Manzoor Alam said the organisation, as part of its ongoing silver jubilee celebrations, is organising a three-day international conference on "Power of Media in a globalising world" here from tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters here, he said seminars on various subjects such as Media and Minorities,Media and Globalisation, and media as a tool of power would be held during the convention.
Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj would inaugurate the conference, which would be attended by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairan Rahman Khan and Union Minister for Law, Justice and Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid.
IOS is involved in promoting research, conducting surveys on relevant themes, publishing books and journals in areas of national concerns and pressing challenges of civil society, besides awarding of scholarships to meritorious university scholars, he said.
So far it has taken up 250 research projects, Alam said.
The Conference Convenor Mohd. Obaidulla Sharief was also present.
