India, a signatory to WTO agreement cannot wish away the consequences that it will bring on all sectors, including education. The entry of foreign universities into India will happen sooner than later. The need of the hour is to meet this challenge head-on by creating awareness among stake-holders - students, parents, educationists and policy makers, T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, said here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating a UGC sponsored national conference on 'Impact of WTO agreement on higher education in India, organised by SDM College of Business Management, in association with and Public Relations Society of India, Mangalore-Manipal chapter, Murthy said foreign universities are already in to education sector in India through the crossborder supply mode. They are attracting students to their universities through the consumption abroad mode.
