XLRI Jamshedpur announced commencement of the training of its new batch of Executive Management Programme for Defence Officers. The programme is in continuation of a series of training programmes XLRI has been conducting at the behest of the ministry of HRD, government of India, who perceived the need for ‘resettlement’ of the officers from the defence services.
The certificate programme in business management for defence officers of six months duration was launched on January 14, 2007, by XLRI and this is the seventh batch of defence officers comprising 40 personnel.
The Executive Management Programme has been designed, keeping in mind the needs of the corporate world vis-à-vis the career aspirations of the service officers. The programme has been structured with a focus on theoretical frameworks across disciplines and is designed to augment and transform the officers’ varied experience to disciplines and functional areas relevant to management of business. The programme also provides an insight into how skills as officers of the armed forces can be applied to the organisation where they would serve, thereby sharpening their managerial skills. Besides, this programme offers an opportunity for the officers to learn new skill-sets that would equip them to face the challenges of the corporate world.
In his welcome address, Fr E Abraham, S J, director, XLRI Jamshedpur, said, “It is now close to five years that we at XLRI began training defence officers at the request of the ministry of HRD, government of India. Over the years the corporate sector has consistently expressed a keen interest in the defence officers graduating from XLRI as they comprise an excellent pool of officers who are all set to face the challenges of tomorrow coupled with long years of discipline and endurance they have sharpened whilst in armed forces.”
Executive Management Programme for Defence Officers is a full time residential programme for six months and is broadly divided into three terms, of approximately two months each. It equips the participants with basic concepts and skills in all functional areas of management along with a specific area of concentration, thereby enabling them to find a suitable second-career in the corporate world.
