Chennai: The newly formed Indian Maritime University began its first-ever counselling session at its Uthandi campus on the East Coast Road on Wednesday.
According to P.Vijayan, founder Vice-Chancellor, total of 6,700 students appeared for the university common entrance test, out which nearly 4,155 had got selected.
The University offered 1,098 seats in B.Sc Nautical Science course and 325 seats in B.E. Marine Engineering course. Shortly, the University plans to add 100 more seats in the Nautical Science and 40 to 50 seats in its Marine Engineering courses, said Dr. Vijayan.
Besides this, the University also provides B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; MBA programme in Shipping and Port Management, he said.
To help the students obtain loans, two nationalised banks have their counters at the counselling sessions.
The founder, Vice chancellor presented cash prize of Rs 10,000 each to three students who secured the first three places in the entrance examination.
