Najeeb Jung, vice-chancellor , Jamia Millia Islamia, recently inaugurated a new hostel, named after Fazlur Rahman Khan. Fazlur Rahman Khan who was born in Dhaka on April 3, 1929, was an architect and a structural engineer.
He worked in the US and was a key figure behind the Second Chicago School of Architecture. He is regarded as the father of tubular design for high-rise buildings. His most famous buildings include the Haj Terminal, King Abdulaziz International Airport, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; John Hancock Centre and the Willis Tower, Chicago (formerly Sears Tower), US, which was the world's tallest building for several decades.
