Polytechnic faculty teaching in Bihar engineering colleges

Patna: Polytechnic faculty members have been teaching in engineering colleges with the full knowledge of the Bihar government, a minister has admitted.

Bihar Science and Technology Minister Shahid Ali Khan said in the state assembly on Tuesday that faced with an acute shortage of teachers in engineering colleges, polytechnic faculty have been deputed as teachers for taking classes in four new engineering colleges.

"I fully admit that polytechnic teachers have been working in engineering colleges, but temporarily," he said.

Opposition leaders said that the state government was playing with the careers of students by allowing less qualified teachers to take classes in engineering colleges.

"It again exposed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's claims of 'sushashan' or good governance," said Abdul Bari Siddiui, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader.

According to official sources, there are not enough teachers in the four new engineering colleges at Gaya, Motihari, Darbhanga and Chandi. There are six teachers in Motihari college, eight each in Gaya and Darbhanga and seven in Chandi.

Old engineering colleges are also facing a dearth of teachers. There are 69 vacant posts in Muzaffarpur and 26 in Bhagalpur.
