Paper leak case: 2 sisters sentenced to three years in prison

A CBI court here sentenced two sisters to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 in a case relating to leak of question papers of the SSLC exam conducted by the state board in 2005.
 
Pronouncing the sentence,Judge S Vijaykumar said the court was taking a lenient view, taking into account the fact that the accused were housewives and they were not aware of the consequences of their crime.
 
The CBI prosecutor stated that the state government had suffered a loss of rs 1.32 crore due to the leakage.
 
Those convicted were Bindhu Vijayan of Vanchiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram and Sindhu Surendran of Chennai, who are sisters.
 
Another accused K Suresh had turned approver.
 
The prosecution case was that in January 2005, the two women entered into a conspiracy with Suresh, a casual employee of a Chennai based printing press in Chetpet, where the question papers of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate exam were being printed, to steal it to help Bindu's son.
 
Suresh got the question papers and handed them over to Sindhu, who forwarded it to Bindu whose son was appearing for the examination that year.
 
Cases were registered against the two under IPC sections including 120 B (Conspiracy) and 411 (dishonsetly receiving stolen property).
