Bihar government reiterated that it wants the Central university in the state should be set up only at Motihari in East Champaran district.
"As far the site of the proposed Central university in Bihar is concerned, the state government has urged the Centre to set up the Central university at Motihari and is prepared to provide adequate land for the same", the Principal Secretary (HRD) Anjani Kumar Singh told reporters here.
On the Centre's demand for a list of viable sites to choose the ideal location for setting up of the Central university in Bihar, he said the state government was categoric in its insistence for setting up such an institute in Motihari only and no alternative sites will be put forth for consideration.
Singh wondered as to why the Centre should have any problem in setting up the Central university at Motihari when it has set up 7-8 Central universities in other states at non-state capital locations and also rejected the latter's reservation about unavailability of basic infrastructure in the East Champaran district's headquarters.
Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had a public spat at the foundation laying ceremony of IIT Patna earlier this year over the site of the proposed Central university in Bihar with Sibal rejecting the state government's insistence on Motihari as the ideal site and said that the beneficiary state had no business to impose its decision when the Centre will be bearing the entire cost.
