Indian students visit NASA

US Consul General Jennifer McIntyre said though high level government discussions were important, it was people-to-people contact which really connects the two democracies.

McIntyre was addressing a group of 300 students who would be on an "Educational Mission to NASA". The students selected from various schools across the country would leave tonight.

Advising students to make use of their 11-day stay in the US, she said, "as future scientists you would be the ones who might make the impossible possible."

"Tell them about where you live...tell them about Carnatic music and the Chennai Super Kings (a Chennai-based cricket team playing the 20 over Indian premier League)," she told the students.

During their stay, the students would be given complete exposure to space and rocket sciences at the Kennedy Space Centre besides an interactive session with an astronaut.Space simulation experience would be part of their curriculum in the four-day camp at the Centre.

The children would be taken to the Universal Studios, Magic Kingdom, White House, Parliament House and the Capitol Building at Washington. A cruise to the Statue of Liberty and a stop at the Ground Zero has also been arranged, WTC Tours, organisers of the tour, said.

"The US and India are defined by our people to people relations. Of course, high level government discussions are important, no doubt, but it is these personal interactions that really connect our two countries", she said.
