Evening classes in polytechnic colleges for students from minority communities would be conducted by the Maharashtra government from Sept 28, benefiting more than 11,00 pupils.
"The evening classes in seven government polytechnic colleges would start from Sep 28 in the state," Minority Affairs Minister Naseem Khan told reporters .
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Union Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora would inaugurate one such evening class at Sir JJ School of Arts in Sout Mumbai the same day, he said.
The minister also said that 742 students had taken admission in the first round held on Sep 20 and subsequently on Sep 27 and 28.
Apart from Mumbai city and suburban Bandra, colleges in Thane, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nanded and Yavatmal, will be conducting the classes, he added.
After commencement of the classes as many as 1,140 students from the minority communities will be benefited.
The decision to conduct evening classes in polytechnic colleges are on the lines of the ITIs for minority communities, Khan said.
