Madurai: From the academic year 2009- 2010, all B.Ed. colleges across the state will adapt uniform curriculum and examination system.
Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, the first of its kind in the country, has begun steps to bring in regularity among teacher education institutions to ensure easy monitoring and quality assurance, according to its Vice-Chancellor T. P. Padmanaban.
The VC said that a communication with regard to uniform syllabus and examination system was being sent to institutions offering teacher education.
Across the state 645 B.Ed. colleges are there out of which seven are government colleges, 14 aided institutions and the remaining self-financing institutions, Dr. Padmanaban said.
The university was established nine months ago and is functioning from the campus of Lady Wellington College in Chennai.
Till now the colleges were under the control of different universities and each university had its own curriculum/examination system as result uniformity was out of question.
After the State government established the university exclusively for teacher education, all the colleges have come under its fold, he said.
Expert teams would visit the B.Ed. Colleges and if any college was found to be inadequate in terms of the standards prescribed by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, the University will not hesitate to cancel its recognition, Dr. Padmanaban said.
The expert teams have been asked to produce a detailed report and proposal.
