IIE urges corporate sector to help rural artisans

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) appealed to the corporate sector to help artisans of the north eastern regionas.

"Soft intervention in nine clusters in the region has been completed and these artisans require more financial help to fully realise their potential and take up commercial production," Dr Sriparna Baruah, head of the Centre for Industrial Extension at the IIE, told reporters here.

Baruah was speaking on the sidelines of a two-day buyer-seller meet here where the products of the clusters were on display and corporate sector representatives were invited by the IIE to interact with the producers.

The IIE is an autonomous organization under the ministry of MSME for development of entrepreneurship in NE.

Most of the clusters are in Assam, Manipur and in Mizoram in the handloom, cane and bamboo processing and jewellery production sectors.

The National Institute of Design is also helping the designs and patterns of the products to meet the market demands, he said.
