As many as 600 bicycles were distributed free of cost among girls studying in 11th and 12th classes in Government schools here.
The Punjab Government will distribute bicycles to 2.5 lakh school going girls studying in 11th and 12th classes in all over the state at a cost of Rs 75 crore, senior Minister Lakshmi Kanta Chawla said at the function.
Chawla said that in the academic next session, the state government will also include girl students of 9th and 10th standard in the scheme to encourage them to pursue higher studies.
