Vice chancellors of six universities in Bihar whose appointments have been challenged in the high court approached President Pratibha Patil for her intervention on the issue.
The Patna High Court had earlier this month issued notices to the Bihar Governor the Chancellor asking him to explain by October 24 his position on a writ petition challenging the appointments of the vice chancellors and four pro-vice chancellors.
Ram Kamakhya Singh of Veer Kuer Singh University, Ara, in his writ petition had challenged the appointments of the VCs and Pro VCs alleging the office of chancellor had not made any consultation with the state government before notifying their appointments which was violation of law.
"We are not at all a party to the decision (on the appointment). We were appointed as per statutory provisions, then why are we facing all problems," Vice Chancellor of Magadh University Arun Kumar said.
Yesterday, the vice chancellors had called on Law Minister Salman Khurshid, who, however, refrained from commenting anything on the issue as the matter was sub-judice.
Governor Debanand Konwar had on August 1 appointed six vice chancellors and four pro vice chancellors of different universities in Bihar after a long wait.
The state government said the governor did not hold any consultation with it over the appointments and ignored the names suggested by it.
