Eminent writer and CMD of Mathrubhumi group M P Veerendra Kumar will be felicitated with the Amrita Keerthi literary award, instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
Kumar was chosen for the honour for his widely-acclaimed work 'Haimavathabhoovil', which narrates the author's journey along the Himalayan ranges and reflects the Indian thought and vision. The award, comprising Rs 1,23,456, a memento and a citation, would be presented to the author on September 27 at Amritapuri Ashram in Kollam.
The selection was made by a panel comprising Swamy Amritaswarupanandapuri, Swamy Turiamritandapuri and writers P Parameswaran, N P Unni and P Narayana Kurup, a release said.
Chairman of Press Trust of India (PTI), Kumar is a veteran politician, activist and writer with 15 books to his credit and scores of articles on perse subjects ranging from literature to environmental concerns.
'Haimavathabhoovil' has bagged several prestigious literary honours, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award.
Published in 2007, the work has run into 27 impressions since then and been translated into other vernacular languages.
