The little learners of South City International School celebrated ‘Grandparents Day’ on September 12, as a mark of love and respect for their beloved elders. The event commenced with the welcoming speech of John Bagul, principal, South City International School, followed by a colourful fancy dress competition for the little students, dedicated to their grandparents. An entertaining performance by the grandparents received a standing ovation from their doting grandchildren.
The occasion was graced by Subroto Mukhopadhyay, minister of public health and engineering, government of West Bengal. Mukhopadhyay said, “This is a praiseworthy initiative on part of the school because every child must appreciate and value their grandparents and there is no better way to instill these feelings than these fun-filled activities.”
Principal Bagul commented, “Grandparents have always been the friend, philosopher and guide for their grandchildren. They inspire, protect and indulge their grandchildren with sheer love and attention. For most of us, our grandparents have been close confidantes right through our childhood years to our adolescence. Grandparents Day is an occasion to pay our respect and show our gratitude to them, who have always been there by our side, pampered us endlessly and made our lives an enjoyable ride of fun, frolic and excitement.”
