Globsyn Skills, a joint venture company of Globsyn Group and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), will be working with 42 skill training colleges of United Kingdom to provide skill training to create employability and employment in various sectors. The Globsyn Skills agenda was to provide the members of the delegation, a macro picture of skills training in India and the work Globsyn group has been doing for the last 15 years to promote skills training and employability, Globsyn Group chairman and CEO, Bikram Dasgupta, said at the event.
The representatives of these colleges, who met the British Deputy High Commission and FICCI, have been working in skill training sectors in Europe and Asian countries. These colleges are keen to create newer avenues in the state for youth based employment generation. Prasenjit Kundu, president and chief operating officer, Globsyn Skills, said, “The delegation, which brings in a range of skills and education providers, including A4e, City of Westminster College, Tribal, Edexcel, City and Guilds and Hull College, is visiting India this week”.
“We began our tour from Kolkata as eastern India provides exciting opportunities to further strengthen India-UK cooperation in the skills and education sector,” said Kevin McCole, COO, UKIBC, A4e and also the delegation head. “UKIBC is in talks with Globsyn among others to provide skill building solutions to them. Some of the sectors UKIBC has identified to train workforce in the state are media and entertainment, healthcare, food and processing, manufacturing, retail, construction and travel and tourism,” added McCole.
“Bengal’s leadership position across manufacturing industries and medium and small service sector organisations demand a large number of skilled workforces. To reposition and develop Bengal as per present state government’s vision, a large pool of skilled workers is critical for attracting investment. This would require creative planning and efforts to structure various forms of public-private-partnership for skill development initiatives,” added Kundu.
