Bengal Institute of Business Studies (BIBS) launched its community service programme, Chetana, on September 3, and celebrated teacher’s day in advance. Reverend Father Borris D’Santos, of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School presided over the inaugural ceremonies and participated in the celebrations. The project provides professional training and job assistance to the unemployed, free of cost. It involves training and developmental processes, which will be provided by major companies on the market. “It will ensure a definite means of livelihood by the end of the programme”, said Devnarayan Sarkar from PepsiCo.
The students of BIBS will be involved in the whole process. A resource team will contact prospective candidates for the programme and a corporate explorer team will engage companies in the process of training and enhancing the skill-sets of the candidates. Once the candidates complete training, they will be assisted in getting placements. The programme hopes to integrate underprivileged and unemployed people into sectors like retail, hospitality, the IT industry and more. “Our nation is trying to achieve inclusive growth, we should try and do our bit to ensure that it is successful”, said Abhijit Mitra from Ernst and Young.
The launch of Chetana was followed by a series of performances by BIBS students. An inaugural dance, a small impromptu skit and a musical treat was dedicated to the teachers on the occasion of teacher’s day.
