Brushing shoulders with Nobel laureates

THE Fourth Meeting in Economic Sciences took place from August 23-27 at Lindau, Germany, where 375 young economists from 65 countries interacted with 18 Economics Nobel laureates.

The goal of the meeting was to initiate a dialogue between scientific generations - the acclaimed and the young researchers - and make a contribution to the exchange of knowledge and experience between them.

A group of seven Indian doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from Indian universities and research institutions were nominated by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) to take part in this meeting, which was sponsored by the ICSSR, the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting and the German Research Foundation.

Besides attending lectures by Nobel laureates on current global economic issues and taking part in round-table and panel discussions over three days, the young economists had opportunities to interact with Nobel laureates and network with fellow researchers. The meeting provided young economists with a rare opportunity to rub shoulders with the best in the field and share their experiences.

The nature of the Lindau Meetings ensures that young economists from across the world participate and Laureates regularly return to Lake Constance. A threestage evaluation process is used to assess the meetings according to the standards and to support their ongoing development.
