IIPM recently honoured distinguished individuals from the world of literature and journalism, at its campus in Kolkata. Atin Bandopadhyay, novelist and winner of 2008 IIPM – Surama Chowdhury Memorial International Award, gave away the awards to the recipients, in the presence of a host of guests, IIPM students and faculty members. Awards were also given away in varied fields covering healthcare, film-making and sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Malay Chaudhuri, founder director of IIPM and chairman of the IIPM awards committee, said, “These awards reflect the philosophy of the institute, through which we want our students and the general mass across the country to appreciate the efforts of people who have contributed extensively in their respective fields.” Dr Chaudhuri also formally announced the winners for this year’s IIPM-Surama Chowdhury Memorial International Award. The award will be handed over to three Bangladeshi intellectuals, Akhtar Ur Jamal Ilyas, Emdadul Haq Milan, Selina Hossain and one Indian national Prafulla Roy at the Bangladesh Book Fair in February 2012 at Dacca.
During the awards ceremony, Sankha Ghosh,Bengali poet,was felicitated with the IIPM-Gour Kishore Ghosh Memorial Award for his extensive contribution to Bengali literature. Another leading Bengali poet, Joy Goswami, was felicitated with the IIPM-Michael Madhusudan Dutta Memorial Award. Rantidev Sengupta was awarded the IIPM-Barun Sengupta Memorial Award, while the editor of The Statesman, Ravindra Kumar was felicitated with the IIPM Award for Excellence in Journalism for his contribution as a columnist and journalism. Among the other awards given away on this day included – IIPM-Satyajit Ray Memorial Award for film-making to Anjan Das, IIPM Award for Excellence in Healthcare to Phani Gopal Bhattacharya and IIPM Award for Excellence in Football to former Indian captain, Baichung Bhutia.
