The first quarterly examination under the Samacheer Kalvi system in all schools from Classes I to X will commence on September 22.
The Department of School Education sent a circular to district education officials a few days ago giving particulars about the quarterly examination portions for each class and for all subjects.
Official sources told The Hindu on Thursday that the examination this year was beginning just a week behind the scheduled date and there was not much of a delay despite the long suspense over the textbooks. A circular containing the portions for the examination has been sent to headmasters/principals of all schools.
Now that there is no matriculation system in the State and uniform system of school education has come into effect, private schools have to follow government instructions on the portions. The examination must commence only on September 22 as fixed by the Directorate of School Education in private schools too, officials said.
While the date of commencement of examination has been communicated, it is not yet finalised when they will end.
A detailed time-table is expected in a few days.
The five subjects for which portions have been sent by the department include Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.
“We are communicating to all private school managements to adhere to the government instructions and follow the uniform timetable. Schools will not be permitted to have exams as they like,” said Roseline Mary, a senior official in the School Education Department here.
Similarly, District Elementary Education Officer A. Gnana Gowri too has informed that the date of commencement of quarterly examinations for elementary schools is September 22 and the Department of Elementary Education would send in a few days the portions to be covered for Classes I to V.
