JIS Group Educational Initiatives brought to the students of engineering and managements sSquare, the second Annual Industry Institute Partnership Summit, where recruitment gurus from across India had come together to advise the students on recruitment and corporate life.
Present at this summit was Sutanu Chaudhuri, chief people officer, Future Value Retail, who spoke about the retail industry, being open to interested and passionate students who would not mind working hard instead of sitting in an air-conditioned cabin. Also present was Rahul Nandi, country staffing manager, India and South Asia, Hewlett-Packard, who taught the students how “social networking” could help one get a dream job. Nandi said, “It is important to brand oneself online, and create one’s own space and stick to websites and communities that can help in bringing about a difference in life. It is of utmost importance that students remain connected at all time and networking is important.”
Mushtaque Alam, global head, Syntel, gave references from his own life and explained how presentation forms a crucial part of packaging. Surprisingly, Alam was ready to give an on-the-spot offer letter from Syntel to any one who answered his three questions and answered them well. He was appreciative of a brave man, who rose to the occasion and answered that performance was the key and promotions were just by-products.
Other speakers included Jaideep Avrasala, staffing leader, Google India, Sophia Almeida, head, corporate recruitment, ATOS, Syed Raza, general manager and head, recruitment, FISERV, G.Pratap, director, human resource, Mearsk, Gaurav Dixit, head, recruitment, Accenture, Preetham Singh, head, resourcing, global technology, HSBC and Yogesh Basole, head, IR, ITC Infotech.
The professionals unanimously agreed that education was of fundamental importance and to be informed was one of the necessities of a student’s life. The transition, from life in an institute to life in an industry, also includes a better understanding of the dynamics of a manager, of peers and subordinates. It is crucial, to be visible through performance and persona, concluded the summit. Students participating in this summit were mainly from IIPC, JIS College of Engineering, Narula Institute of Technology and Guru Nanak Institute of Technology.
