TN asks schools to comply with govt recommended fee structure

Approval of schools that do not comply with the government recommended fee structure will be cancelled, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister C Ve Shanmugam said.

"The Singaravelu Committee newly set up by the state government has received 444 complaints. The Chief Education Officers in all districts will investigate these complaints and if they are found guilty, the approval given to those schools will be cancelled,"  he said in the state assembly.
 
He was replying to a complaint made by CPI member T Ramachandran who said that a private school in Madurai was collecting more fees and conducting separate classes.
 
Later while replying to the demands for grants, Shanmugam announced the introduction of smart cards for school students. These cards will have all the details of the students and will help them when they relocate to other towns, he said.
 
Government will also convert five government schools as 'smart schools', which will have computerised class rooms, at a cost of Rs 125 crore, he said, adding,the state had a 29:1 student-teacher ratio against the national recommendation of 30:1.
 
The Minister announced that 14,377 new teachers would be appointed soon and Government will spend Rs 42 crore to appoint special teachers/trainers to train students who suffer from Dyslexia.
 
Under NABARD scheme XI, science laboratory, additional classrooms, drinking water and compound wall facilities will be constructed in 236 government higher secondary schools at a cost of Rs 260 crore, in addition to providing internet facility to all panchayat schools middle schools.
