Varsity bill tabled

"The Self-Financed Universities Bill, which was tabled in the legislative assembly on Monday, will clear the decks for private varsities in the engineering, management, technology, and business-commerce faculties," minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope said. "It vests varsities with autonomy and promises minimum regulatory interference," he added.

Private varsities have to adhere to UGC norms and obtain accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council or National Board of Accreditation.
