Toppers in the S.S.L.C. and Plus Two board exams were felicitated by the district administration under the aegis of the Haji Sheikh Dawood Foundation, here at the Thirupoondi Government Higher Secondary School on Wednesday.
Students of the school, who had secured the first three places in the Plus Two exams, were awarded cash prizes on the occasion. V. Vivek of Thirupoondi Government Higher Secondary School was awarded Rs. 15,000 for securing 1007 marks out of 1,200; M. Vijayarani was felicitated with Rs. 10,000 for a score of 1003 marks and K. Suganthi was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 for scoring 934 marks. Similarly, A. Swathi was awarded Rs. 10,000 for securing 481 marks; and A. Ishra and S. Nafeez were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 6,500 and Rs. 3,500 for scores of 471 and 468 respectively, in the S.S.L.C. exams.
Lauding the efforts of the private foundation, Collector T. Munusamy stated that such private endeavours went a long way in effecting a difference especially for those pitched in an asymmetrically competitive environment. The Collector also hailed the toppers and urged the students to ensure that their success was multi-faceted, not restricted to text-book knowledge. Urging students to take up co-curricular activities at the school level, Mr. Munusamy pointed out that multifaceted training was a positive feeder in personality building. Further, the school that had secured a pass percentage of 81 per cent was urged to work towards securing a cent percent pass percentage.
R. Veerchamy, Chief Education Officer; M. Ramakrishnan, Ditrict Education Officer, were among the officials present on the occasion.
