Allahabad: As part of a nation-wide programme to infuse young minds with a scientific temper, a premier engineering institute here will hold 'science camps' for the students of class X and XII across Uttar Pradesh.
'Following a request from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), we will be holding science camps where students comprising the top one per cent of high school and intermediate pass-outs from across the state will get an opportunity to interact with the top scientists of the country,' Director of the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) Arun Baran Samaddar .
The camp would be held as part of the DST’s programme INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) which aims at honing the innate skills of the students in order to build a rich pool of scientific and technical human resource, he said.
The two-day science camp, a first of its kind, will be held in July, for which selection of students and scientists is underway.
'Since this is going to be our first experience with the science camp, we would be inviting only 100 students. However, in subsequent camps the number may be raised to 500 at a time,' the MNNIT director said.
At the camps, the students will get a chance to visit laboratories and other research installations and conduct experiments under the supervision of experts,
