Nehru award for outstanding doctoral research for TNAU scholar

A scholar in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) here has been conferred with the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Award for outstanding Doctoral Research in Agriculture and Allied Sciences for the year 2010 by Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR).
  
The award, carrying a medal, a citation and Rs.50,000 cash, was presented to Dr M R Manikantan, Department of Food and Agriculture Processing, TNAU, by Union Agricultur Minister, Sharad Pawar, at a recent function in Delhi.
  
Manikantan received the award for his Phd thesis, development and evaluation of High barrier Nanocomposite films for food packeging, a TNAU release said.
 
Through his thesis, he has developed high barrier and strong nanocomposite film suitable for packaging food materials, from polypropylene and polythylene by industrially viable melt intercalation method using advanced nanocomposite technology, it said.
