Emphasising on the re-enrollment of school dropouts, Union Minister Kumari Selja said here the government was spending Rs 9,000 per student per year under the 'Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan'.
"Efforts were being made to re-enroll the school dropouts. A number of incentives like free dress, books and stationery, mid day meal, cash incentives to SC and BC students, besides free education were being provided to the school going children," Congress MP from Ambala said while addressing the grievances of the people of Ambala and Yamunanagar districts at her residence here.
Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister, Selja, said that a special campaign had been launched to enroll all the children in the age group of 6-14 years under the 'Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan'.
"The government was spending Rs 9,000 per student per year under the Abhiyan," she said here.
Describing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) a tool to solve the problem of unemployment in the country, the Minister said that the shortage of funds would not be allowed to come in the way of this flagship programme.
The village panchayats could undertake development works like construction of streets, digging of village ponds, plantation, construction of dams and structures for water conservation, under the programme.
"The marginal farmers having less than five acres of land could take the benefit of this scheme by working on their own fields," she said.
