At Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), there was an occasion of singing and dancing along with loads of smiles and joys recently. It was the annual concert of IICP. Teachers and special children of IICP presented ‘Play of Seasons’ a programme of drama, dance and music at IICP auditorium.
The event kick started with Reena Sen’s, IICP executive director, welcome speech. “The concert is held once every two years. Our objective is to enable special kids to participate with joy. It is an attempt to celebrate diversity.” Then started the dance performance of special kids in gleaming white attires assisted by B Ed trainees. This was followed by another dance performance by Jugnoo kids, an initiative by IICP for educating street children, which is a part of Sarvo Shiksha Abhiyaan. In bright yellow attires, the little kids celebrated the beauty of spring. Next was a dance performance for monsoon season with the song Allah megh de, pani de, chhaya de with children clad in lungis, kurtas, and skullcaps. One of the special girls, Soumya Singh won a lot of prizes for elocution from Andrew Yule. The event saw the presence of Derek O’Brien, the quiz master as special guest, enjoying other programmes.
