Music soothes a weary soul and mind. The formative years must not only deal with academics but also with aesthetics, and music is one of the foundation pillars of this discipline.

The first concert of Live in School series was hosted at La Martiniere for Boys and the featuring artists such as Cavatina Duo from Bosnia-Spain-USA, who performed Balkan folk music with classical overtones.

As the Cavatina Duo, Eugenia Moliner and Denis Azabagic’s repertoire includes forms of music ranging from baroque, classical to romantic and contemporary periods. Their music is inspired by their roots and hence folk traditions from their native land of Spain and the Balkans was evident.

The event featured the eminent musician and presenter of the Live in School series Bickram Ghosh who addressed the gathering prior to the concert. Sunirmal Chakravarthi, principal, La Martiniere for Boys was also present.

Divyamaan Sahoo of class XI, La Martiniere for Boys, also an eighth grade guitarist and violinist was completely enthralled by the performance of the Cavatina Duo. For him it was “complete detachment of oneself from studies”.

On the other hand Aditya Kapur of the class XII, who is an aspiring film director and has collaborated with his aforementioned friend to create numerous short films said, “I have never heard the tunes of flute and guitar so beautifully blended together before. The entire experience was brilliant and the last piece was mind blowing.”

The Live in School series is yet another creation of the Calcutta Classical Guitar Society that has already given to the city Live in Concert, Live in Park, Live in India series. Musicians featuring in this series gave full recitals in schools and colleges around the city, to create awareness about music among students and inspire them.

The series will take place in about 500 schools in and around Kolkata. All musicians playing at the evening concerts will do day concerts in schools.

A tie-up has also been created with famous Hindustani violinist Kala Ramnath to bring the Kodaly System of pre-school Hindustani music learning in very easy nursery rhyme type format.
