The Shiv Prasad College in Jharia of the district will continue to function at the same place despite underground mine fire posing danger to the 60-year-old institute.
The decision was taken at a meeting involving senior officials of Dhanbad district administration and the Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), according to official sources here.
To prevent fire approaching towards the college, trench cutting would start within the next 48 hours under the supervision of Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal, the sources said.
A five-member high-level committee was also formed for selecting alternative spot for water tank to cater the requirement of Jharia.
Besides the DC, the Director General of Mines Safety Satish Puri, Jharia MLA Kunti Devi, Dhanbad Mayor Indu Singh, college principal Kiran Singh, scientists of Central Institute Mineral Fuel Research and experts from Coal Mines Planning and Design Institute Limited and BCCL officials attended the meeting.
