TN govt. scraps 8th standard seperate exam

Updated on: Friday, July 29, 2011

As a reflection of Right to Education Act, the seperate exam for 8th standard which was held earlier, has been scrapped by TN government.

Every year, in the month of November or December seperate exam for 8th standard were being held. 8th qualification is must to join as a class IV worker(khalasi) in railway department, as well as to get promotion as a registrar from the stage of sweeper and to get driving license. Hence, thousands of people write this seperate exam every year.

It is to presume that concerning the RTE, no students should be failed until 8th standard. But, conducting seperate exam for 8th standard would require to release pass-fail list leading to unwanted deliberations. Hence, the govt. of Tamilnadu has decided to do away with this seperate exam.

RTE enforces that if one could write 10th and 12 exams, he/she should have been a regular student up to 8th standard.

Cancellation of 8th standard seperate exam by TN government would severly affect those who are pushed to write 8th standard directly.
