The British Council hosts the fourth year of the national schools’ debate programme, Debating Matters India. It begins with the Online Elimination Test (OET), which goes live July 26 onwards.

Schools from across the country will participate in the online tests to find a place in the regional finals.

At the regional final level, to be held in September, live debates will be held in eight cities. These are Delhi and Chandigarh in the north, Mumbai and Ahmedabad in the west, Chennai and Bangalore in the south and Guwahati and Kolkata in the east.

Debating Matters India is open to students of Classes XI and XII of Indian schools.
In India, Shell Group of Companies India, Wellcome Trust, Institute of Ideas and the British Council as Title Sponsors support Debating Matters.

Each school is encouraged to register a six-member debate team along with a debate coordinator teacher right from the online elimination stage. However, a school can register a minimum of four students as well.

A school can register only one team and the OET will continue from July 26 to August 20
Upon the completion of the test, the team will have to submit their answers online, which will be examined by the British Council examiners. The teams will be selected on the basis of the answers they give at the OET. At the end of this process, the 12 shortlisted schools from each region will get a seeding based on their performance in the OET.

The schools have to log on to //www.britishcouncil.org.in/debatingmattersindia/ for the registration process. For more information visit: http://www.britishcouncil.org/india-projects-debatingmatters-home.htm
