The Dental Council of India is keen on reintroducing the four-plus-one internship programme in undergraduate dental education in the country, a top official said.

"The Dental Council of India is eagerly awaiting the Union government's decision to re-introduce four-plus-one internship programme in UG dental education," Dibyendu Mazumder, President of Dental Council of India, said here.

Inaugurating a workshop in a medical university, he said there would be a three-month rural service component in the internship if the government approved the programme.

He also urged the state government to appoint dentists in Public Health Centres and called on dental colleges in the country to adopt at least a few PHCs in their states to provide dental cover to the rural population.
