Mayiladuthurai girl tops MBBS rank list

The merit list of MBBS and BDS admissions for the academic year 2009-10 was released on Monday and Karthika Sankar from Mayiladuthurai topped the rank list.

The names of the eight toppers- six boys and two girls who scored 200 out of 200 in the essential subjects in the Standard XII Board examinations were also disclosed.
Karthika Sankar of ARC Kamatchi Matriculation Higher Secondary School; Balaji Prathep S. of Sri Vidya Mandir Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Uthangarai; and Karthikeyan M.A., of SRV Boys Higher Secondary School, Rasipuram, came first, second and third. Devasena N. of Kongu Matriculation HSS, Namakkal; Vignesh S. of SRV Boys HSS, Rasipuram; Karthikeyan T. of Sri Vidya Mandir Matriculation HSS, Uthangarai; Palanisamy V. of GVHS School, Mettur; and Varshini Ramesh of DAV HSS, Gopalapuram, took fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth places.

As scheduled, the first phase of the counselling would begin on July 6 and go on till July 17, the Health Minister Mr. Panneerselvam said at a press meet at the Directorate of Medical Education. Call letters would be sent to all individuals. But those who did not receive them, but have the eligibility as per the criteria, could attend with original certificates as per the counselling schedule provided in newspapers and the website: www.tnhealth.org

Secretary, Selection Committee, Sheela Grace, said in all 14,321 candidates had applied for admission to MBBS and BDS, out of which 384 candidates were found ineligible for various reasons.

Out of the 13,937 candidates found eligible, the majority of them were from the State Board stream, while 303 were from the Central Board stream, 20 from the ICSE stream and 58 from others.
