To cater to the need for trained manpower for the rapidly growing golf industry, the International School of Corporate Management (Iscom), Pune, has tied up with Elmwood College, St. Andrew's U.K., for a post-graduate programme in golf management.
The full time course will equip students to effectively manage a complete golf and country club type of operations. It is endorsed by Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, UK Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) UK and Indian Golf Union. Course curriculum covers full range of fundamentals of management combined with golf related academic curriculum, including six months on the job training in Scotland at the Elmwood College, St.Andrews. Total duration is 24 months including the six months apprenticeship.
Elmwood College also offers a dual certification, one in golf management and the other in international golf course management. These programmes will be delivered in Pune, Iscom and are certified by the Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews (R&A), Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) & the Indian Golf Union.
The two programmes are of nine credits each, comprise over 700 hours of instruction, supported by research and study assignments and an elaborate assessment protocol. Graduates of any discipline are eligible but they must pass the entrance test conducted by Iscom.
Candidates qualified in GMAT, CAT, MAT or an equivalent test with at least 50 per cent marks will be exempt from entrance test. Defence service officers may also be exempted from entrance test based on service profile and entirely at the discretion of the institute. All candidates will have to qualify in personal interview.
Funded by Chandmal Munot Education Trust and headed by Director Prof. Keshav Rae, the institute aims to impart quality education to our students and move management training out of the box making it relevant in the current environment of an expanding market economy.
Interested candidates should be familiar with the game of golf and if required golf can be taught during the course of the programme. Lateral entry directly to second year for MBA graduates and graduates of College of Defence Management is possible.
There will be four academic semesters of six months each and fee for the entire course is Rs.9 lakh including service tax payable in two equal instalments. Fee for lateral entry directly to second year for MBA graduates is Rs. 6 lakh. Bank loans are also available, a press release said.
The fee includes laptop, training / teaching material, all course related travel, including travel to Scotland and back, two years membership of Poona Club Golf Course, formal wear, accommodation on twin sharing basis, breakfast and lunch on working days only.
However, the fee does not include golf equipment and caddy fees, personal transport, home travel during vacation and any expenses not directly related to the conduct of the curriculum. Admissions are open for the two year PG programme in Golf Management commencing July 2011 plus also for the one year lateral entry, commencing October 2011. Details are available on www.iscom.co.in.
