'Digital super highway' connecting schools soon

Work on the 'digital super highway' connecting schools in the state and the project to turn the Public Instruction Department into a 'paperless' office would be initiated during the first 100 days of UDF government in Kerala, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb said.
 
Talking to reporters here, he said it was for the first time in the country that a 'digital highway' was being put in place using the possibilities of Information Technology. This would become functional under the IT@School project of the state government by September, he said.
 
The Education department would also implement the project for total management software, 'Sampoorna' in all higher secondary schools.
 
The computer educational facility in public schools would be made available to parents also from this year.
 
Under the 100-day programme of the department, the heritage protection scheme for four government colleges would be implemented. University College (Thiruvananthapuram), Maharajas College (Ernakulam), Brennen College (Thalassery)
and Victoria College (Palakkad) are the four colleges chosen for the project.
 
A science centre would be set up at Kawarati in Lakshadweep under the state science and technology museum, he said.
