The Punjab government said it will conduct a state-level eligibility test for college lecturers on UGC pattern in view of the non-availability of required number of National Eligibility Test qualified candidates for state colleges.
"We will conduct State-level eligibility test for college lecturers on the lines of National Eligibility Test as there is shortage of NET-qualified teachers for state colleges," Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan told reporters after he was handed over the Interim Report on Higher Education by Punjab Education Policy Committee here.
The Committee headed by former GNDU Vice-Chancellor S P Singh recommended state-level college lecturer eligibility test and setting up of Punjab Higher Education Regulatory Authority among others.
