The first batch of 15 students of Food Science and Technology Centre of Banaras Hindu University has registered 100% placement records, making an encouraging beginning for the centre that came into existence in 2008-09.
As per Anil Kumar Chauhan, professor of the centre, all the 15 students of the first batch passing out this year have been well placed in different food and dairy based companies in the country. 'Out of them, as many as six students have attracted annual package between Rs 7-9 lakh in leading food and dairy companies. We are also looking for placement of the students in international companies and foreign universities," he informed.
It may be mentioned here that BHU has signed several MoUs with US and European universities that are leaders in the area of food and dairy technology. The USAID funded agricultural innovation partnership programme that started in the varsity last year also has has dairy and food science as its major component.
The centre, initially funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi, is equipped with modern infrastructural facilities with state-of-the-art food science laboratory and infrastructural facilities for evaluation, development and implementation of food based technologies particularly for Eastern UP region.
