When one of the triple blasts rocked the city on July 13, they also shook the nearby schools. Realising that the schools can be easy targets for terrorists, the parents and teachers have demanded stronger security measures such as installing CCTV cameras and employing services of professional security agencies.
"The classes at Dr Antonia D'silva School, which is five minutes away from the Kabutarkhana blast site, got over just 15 minutes before the blast. Even a five minute difference could have led to serious implications. We desperately need additional security outside schools, " Parent Teacher Association (PTA) United head Arundhuti Chavhan said.
The PTA United forum that met on Sunday has scheduled another meeting for later this week, and 150 city schools are expected to attend. The association will then request all schools to put up CCTV cameras, replace watchmen by trained private security guards and urge traffic department to post more cops in the area.
Suchita Shetty, a teacher working with Sharda Ashram, also near the Dadar blast site, said, "We have guards stationed at both the gates of our school. But that is not enough."
Following the meeting with 150 schools, the forum will send the proposal for approval to School Education Minister Rajendara Darda.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Darda said, "It is a good idea to install CCTV cameras at schools. I would like to have a meeting with schools to take up the issue."
