Mexus Education, an educational innovations enterprise, was awarded the Best Classroom Assessment Tool at the World Education Summit – a three-day conference of academicians from across the globe.
Among the industry experts to confer the award were Dr Rajsekharan Pillai, the vice-chancellor of IGNOU; Ravi Gupta, editor of Digital Learning Magazine, and Krish Shrikanth, former cricketer and founder of www.careerstrokes.com.
Mexus Education, through Iken Assessment System, has introduced the idea of formative assessment system in the Indian schools. This is not very different from the famed ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ where a set of multiple choice questions are projected in a sequence, on the screen with four alternatives. Every student gets a remote. To answer a question, they have to simply press one of the options on their remotes.
The concept of not having to read endless textbook pages, and write examinations for hours, has interested students across the country. Schools have been scouting for such assessment systems, as a step towards modernisation, and a means to save resources invested in conducting tests, their corrections, documenting, etc. Revered academicians are of the opinion that this system would largely contribute to reduction of examination stress on students as well as the teachers.
The philosophy of continuous evaluation systems, as established in CCE structure proposed by CBSE, also communicates the need for 360-degree assessment of students on non-academia-oriented parameters, like concept understanding abilities, career preferences, and vocational course preferences of students; paired with academic performance.
