Home Minister underlines youths to serve the nation than going abroad

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has asked technocrats and professionals to avoid going abroad for employment and make use of their talents for the development of the nation.

Inaugurating the New Emerging Technology (NET) skills project funded by European Union and co-funded by Department of Science and Technology at Karaikudi, he said a section of doctors, technocrats and nurses, who studied with the support and grants provided by the governments had been opting overseas employments instead of serving the nation.

There was nothing wrong in going abroad when the country attained self-sufficiency on its needs. Their talents and resources should be utilised for the growth of the country, he said.

On New Emerging Technology (NET), Chidambaram said a total of 3,000 youth of the region would be trained for four years from 2011 to 2014 in soft skills and in-plant training.

He said out of Rs.7.2 crore outlay of the project, the European Union had contributed 90 per cent. The project would also be implemented in Maharastra and West Bengal.
