Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a premier school for mass communication in the country, will soon have a branch in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sunit Tandon, the Director of IIMC, discussed the modalities for setting up a branch of the Institute in the state with a senior government official yesterday, an official spokesperson said.
"The state government is keen to facilitate the establishment of a regional branch of IIMC in the state for which five to 10 acres of land would be made available at a suitable place in Jammu," he said.
"Temporary accommodation for faculty and students would be arranged till the construction of the building is completed. The purpose is to ensure that journalism courses are launched during the next year," he added.
IIMC has approved four new regional centres in Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The Institute presently has branches in New Delhi and Dhenkanal in Orissa.
