PMT exam: HPU asked to re-work result

With answers to some questions for the 2011-12 Pre Medical Entrance Test (PMT) changed after they were scrutinized by a special moderation committee of HP University, the high court has asked for re-working of the final results.

Some students had approached the high court over answers to certain contentious questions in the exam.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice VK Sharma directed HPU to re-check the answer sheets of the PMT test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the state for the academic year 2011-12 on the basis of the new answer key.

All the questions in dispute were referred to a special moderation committee consisting of experts. On the basis of the committee's report, the court asked for making changes in the answers plotted by the students in the examination.

The PMT prospectus had declared publication of answers to the questions asked in the competitive examination and had also mentioned that an opportunity would be provided to candidates for submitting objections that would be scrutinized by an appropriate body of the university.

Several candidates who took the exam had objected to certain questions being out of syllabus, multiple answers possible for some questions, while certain questions being totally wrong.

However the court refrained from passing any observations with regard to the conduct of examination as it was brought to its notice that All India Examination pattern was expected to be implemented from next year.
