Like the IITs and the IIMs, the prestigious National Law School of India University (NLSIU ) Bangalore is also getting into a mentoring mode. The premier institute will handlold law colleges in the state .
The L-school will conduct moot courts and partner withlawcolleges to participate in competitions . NLSIU's executive council has approved the plan based on a suggestion from Karnataka Bar Council .
NLSIU will also line up welfare programmes for SC /STs in the state . With Rs 2-crore special grant sanctioned by the government , it'll run academic-support training programmes for SC /ST students , offer subsidies in distanceeducation programmes , scholarship to master's in business law programme and special training to young advocates .
Theinstitute'sfinancecommittee has recommended that special coaching to aspirants of civil services and other competitive exams could be taken up . "The law school has received special grant to set up a cell for SCs and tribal welfare programmes . We will discuss with education and social welfare departments to chart out an action plan ," V Nagaraj , NLSIU registrar , told TOI.
QUOTA FOR SC/ST/OBCs
NLSIU's executive council has set up a committee to look into the demand for reserving seats for local SC /ST /OBC candidates . The law school currently fills up seats based on all-I ndia quota .
CONVOCATION AT VIDHANA SOUDHA
The law school has picked Vidhana Soudha for this year's convocation after a gap of 18 years. President Pratibha Patil is expected to preside over the event on August 7. In 1993, then president S D Sharma was the chief guest for the institute's maiden convocation ceremony. The law school turns 25 next year. "This is the second time it will be held at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha," the NLSIU registrar said.
