Uttarkhand takes steps to strengthen elementary education

Setting up of 19 model schools, 18 girls hostels, appointment of over 1,000 teachers and a fixed deposit of Rs 3,000 to girl students belonging to SC and ST category are some of the steps taken by the Uttarakhand government to strengthen elementary education in the state.
   
The decisions to this effect was taken at a meeting of education department chaired by state Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar here today, an official release said here.
   
The government also sanctioned Rs 790 crore for Rashtriya  Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad and Rs 605 crore for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
   
A decision to upgrade 147 high schools to secondary schools were also taken at the meeting.
   
Education Secretary Manisha Panwar said the government will set up English and Mathematics lab in each of the 13 districts in the state.
   
The government would provide a Fixed Deposit of Rs 3,000 to girl students belonging to SC and ST category, she said, adding that a total of 7,066 girls will be benefited through this scheme during the current financial year.
