UPSC aspirants can now choose Indian languages for interview

Mumbai High court verdict is indeed a big boon for civil service aspirants. The verdict says, 'the candidate can opt any one of the Indian regional language as medium for the final phase of selection i.e. interview.

Earlier, a candidate had to use the same language, which he used in the main examination. He could not opt for another language, irrespective of his previous language in which he wrote the main exam. And if he had written in any one of the regional languages, he could only opt English or Hindi for an interview.

Now, this verdict of Mumbai High court, allows the candidates to choose any one of the Indian regional languages at the interview phase. A case filed by the civil aspirant Sitharanjan kumar in Mumbai High court, against the previous rule, has brought the new light in the life of civil aspirants. He wrote main exam in English and chose Hindi as a medium for an interview. However, the permission was denied, he knocked the doors of Mumbai High court.

An expert committee was formed to interrogate this issue and the report was submitted. The recommendations, made by expert committee were accepted by UPSC and were sent to the government also. Once the affidavit is filed by the government side on this suggestions, the UPSC shall implement the new rule accordingly.
