The anxious wait of students of M S University's third year Bachelor of Arts (TY BA) and second year Master of Arts (MA) will end soon.
TOI had reported earlier that since over a fortnight students of the faculty of the arts are being deprived from knowing their results as answer sheets of the history subject which MSU's examination section had sent to get them assessed from Amritsar had gone missing.
Now, although MSU officials have failed to trace these answer sheets, the results of these students will be declared on the basis of average marks that they have received in other subjects.
"We have decided to average out marks of five other papers and students will be granted marks for the history subject based on this average," MSU's officiating registrar M M Beedkar said on Saturday, adding that the university had no other option but to count the average marks of the students.
"We could not have waited longer as continuing investigations into the matter would have taken more time but justice will be done to students," Beedkar said.
Interestingly, despite repeated attempts MSU has failed to trace the answer sheets. While the courier agency - Maruti - has claimed that there is a signature to verify that the answer sheets had reached the department of history at Amritsar, the concerned examiner himself had issued several circulars appealing colleagues within and outside the department to hand them over to him, but still the answer sheets could not be traced.
The students of TY BA and MA part-2 have been left in the lurch since June 23 when all other departments of faculty of arts, except the history department, declared their results.
