The Dhenkanal Kendriya Vidyalaya is facing a lot of trouble with as many as nine teaching posts including that of the principal lying vacant in the school.
In the school, there are three categories of teachers - primary teachers who are supposed to teach Class I to V, trained graduate teachers (TGT) for class VI to X and post graduate trained teachers (PGT) for Class IX-XII. In the absence of teachers, the school authorities are appointing contractual teachers for some classes. As a result, the 800-odd students studying in this school are losing interest in academic activities.
"As our science teacher is taking the chemistry class of the senior students, our classes remain vacant. We are getting more leisure time in these classes," said a Class VI student on condition of anonymity.
In the English class, the new contractual teacher fails to clear our doubts, said students of Classes XI and XII. We have little hope of securing good marks in our next exam, they added.
Official sources said three posts of PGT and TGT in English are lying vacant for over a year and a teacher on contract is posted on stop gap arrangement. A teacher of Chemistry was transferred last month and no replacement has been made yet. The principal's post is also lying vacant for two months.
Besides, two posts of trained graduate teachers in mathematics and social studies are vacant for one and a half year. A graduate science teacher is assigned to teach student of Classes XI and XII, as a result, Class VIII students are missing classes.
The school management and senior teachers said the process of transfer of teachers should be completed before the beginning of the academic session. The assistant commissioner and commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan have been informed of the matter, they said.
Reacting to the indifferent attitude of KV sangathan, Parents-Teachers Association secretary Satyanarayan Rath said, "We have contacted the assistant commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya repeatedly, but the authorities are yet to take any step on this. Parents and students have expressed their concern to him, which he has communicated to higher authorities."
Sources said even the Parents-Teachers Association is unable to arrange a meeting as the post of the principal is lying vacant.
