A complaint with serious allegations has been made against the vice-chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University by a senate member on Friday. The complaint to the education minister alleges that the vice-chancellor had tried to influence the election process in the university here on Thursday.
Gaurang Vaidya in his complaint to Ramanlal Vora, education minister, and Vasuben Trivedi, minister for higher and technical education, alleged that VNSGU VC B A Prajapati had entered the voting room and sat there for a while so as to influence the voters in the election to elect a representative of the head of departments in the syndicate. Vaidya stated that Prajapati being the appellate authority should not have acted this way.
"In the history of VNSGU, this has happened for the first time," said Vaidya.
The contest was between Apurva Desai, head of computer science department, and Pankaj Gadhia, head of bioscience department. Gadhia was supported by Prajapati while Desai had the support of BJP affiliated syndicate members.
Vaidya alleged that Prajapati pressurised heads of the departments to let his candidate win the election uncontested. However, Desai was declared elected. Despite several attempts, the vice chancellor was not available for his comments.
